The photos don't do these rugs justice, you really have to see them in person. Please come! Just like in Morocco I'll make us some strong sweet mint tea and we can talk about our families for 2 hours before we haggle to a price. :)  Come pick out the one that you love. You'll cherish it for a lifetime.
I am the original owner of these rugs. I traveled all over Morocco for a month in 2012 visiting weaver's collectives out in the desert, selecting and purchasing the very best rugs I found. I shipped them all back to NYC by sea, a long and elaborate process which took a full year. Since all of these rugs were purchased directly from the original tribal artisan weavers, who are always women, they kept 100% of the profit, and earned much more from these rugs than they do when there are a half dozen or more middle men (always men) between them and your home. I actually negotiated the prices with the matriarch's of these weavers' collectives, as opposed to their husbands, or to some other man in charge. They were pleasantly surprised to have a foreign visitor, especially one willing to pay them so much more for their art than what they get from the usual middle men rug dealers from Fes or Marrakech.

The stunning colors of these rugs come from natural organic dyes. Whites, blacks and browns come from the natural colors of the sheep's wool. The rest are produced from primarily vegetable sources: The madder plant yields a range of reds, oranges, and purples. Yellow is made from saffron or weld. Blue is traditionally made with indigo, Morocco has one of the few natural indigo dyeries still left in the world. Greens are made by overdyeing indigo with weld or by mixing indigo or cobalt with saffron. Various shades of red or violet are also made from insect dye or lac, derived from the shells of beetles.  Infinite variations are created in these colors by the use of mordants.
